A MENTAL HEALTH STORYTELLING SERIES
“A week into my year-long art project, I woke up and was feeling physically bad. Really bad. And that day I made Manny. He’s a monster. That’s how I felt that day.
Hours later, the paramedics took me to the ER. Finally, my heart episode was being recorded. And the guy at the ER said, ‘You’re having an SVT – supraventricular tachycardia. Faulty signaling in the heart that makes it beat way too fast. You need an ablation.’
When I came home from the hospital the next day, I created a pom character using part of my hospital bracelet. His name is Ermine Ragusa, and he’s got an EKG line across his head.
Eventually I got an ablation. I had an electrical circuit in my heart that was not functioning properly, and we found it and fixed it. And l felt way, way better! When I returned home that day I made a pom of My Heart.
But I still felt cruddy physically because I had some other health issues going on. So I went to a functional medical doctor to help me. His name was Dr. Marty. So I went home and created Marty The Lactose-Intolerant Mouse. He only eats cashew nut cheese.”
