A MENTAL HEALTH STORYTELLING SERIES

“When I meditate, I don’t do very well. I’m not very good at it. My mind wanders, and it wanders to the things I’m upset about, and I’m not relaxed at all.
I’ve been an artist since the age of three, and art is my meditation.
And I was ready to make a commitment to myself, my well-being, and my health. So I promised to create a new piece of art – from start to finish – every single day for a year. Now, I’m a painter, and if I commit to making a painting every day for a year, I’ll wind up with 365 canvases.
I decided to make little characters out of cotton pom poms. I create one new character a day – some are simple, some are elaborate, some are R-rated. Some are celebrity-inspired fan art, and some are original characters.
All of them are thoughtfully created. I give each pom pom character a name and write a little biography with fun facts. The first Pom I created on Day 1 was Aretha Angel. Probably because I really needed one.”
